The Inbetween

Much of my work comes from a process-oriented and minimalist perspective. Yet two years ago I began working on a small series of highly detailed drawings which were loaded with fantastical characters as well as a vague sense of narrative. With this in mind, I began my latest work in progress, The Inbetween. This drawing is a massive existential void, a Purgatory of sorts. It's a is non-literal and constantly shifting place populated with many a strange and isolated figure, similar to a Hieronomous Bosch painting. Working intuitively with no preconceived blueprint, my goal is to create an intensely detailed environment, pulling the viewer into a state of suspended disbelief. I want this world to act as a subjective, post-modern myth, pulling from numerous religious, artistic, and cultural mythologies as source material. I love epic, obsessive, and large scale works and for me the months ahead will be dedicated to finishing this massive drawing, specifically to be shown in the Art Prize.
