little african girl in sunday best

This photo shows a glimpse of the children in Rural Tanzania. You would expect the children to be solemn and serious given their economic situation. They struggle with disease, unclean water, and poverty. If you look into their eyes its almost like seeing deep into their soul. Spend even a few minutes with them and its amazing how full of joy they are. I tried to capture the complexity along with the simplicity of this little girl's life. Her beautifully elaborate dress seems almost out of place against the backdrop of fellow street children and poverty around her. Yet for a few hours on Sunday morning she gets to put on the most beautiful thing she owns and feel like a princess. When I saw this little girl I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Shining even more bright then the sun glistening through the lace on her dress was her eyes, full of hope. The children of Tanzania are beautiful inside and out and I hope this opens people's eyes to how people live in other parts of the world.
