Hird is working on the third installment of her ‘New Mythologies’ series while at the Studios of Key West. Using a wide range of media, from digitally animated drawings, massive canvas scrolls in oil paint, watercolor and mixed media on paper or delicate paper cut outs, she creates an alternative cosmology celebrating a complex primal world. These visual narratives are based on her travel and study with indigenous peoples from the Berbers of Northern Africa to the Inuit of the Pacific Northwest, blending their vast panoply of creation stories into her own unique narrative. Professor of Art, Saint Michaels College, in Vermont and The Art Student's League in New York. BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. MFA from Vermont College. Represented by the Nohra Haime Gallery, 730 Fifth Ave., New York and the Lucky Street Gallery, Key West, Florida.
