Without Moving (after Guy Chase)

Tim Lowly's avatar Tim Lowly

Without Moving (after Guy Chase) - In the center of this painting is Lowly's daughter Temma who has been a persistent presence in his work for the past 26 years. The impression of the isolation of this figure is dramatically altered when upon closer examination one sees the results of the on-going participatory component of this work: the dark gray area surrounding Temma is slowly being covered by a meticulously painted field of black dots. These dots are being applied by Tim Lowly and a variety of other participants. This quasi performance / prayer / action only takes place when the work is being exhibited. Thus far in excess of 160,000 dots have been painted by over 40 participants.
