Dr. Tammy Movsas is trained as a pediatric ophthalmologist and preventive medicine physician. She served as Medical Director of the Midland County Department of Public Health in Midland, Michigan from 2012-2018. As a physician against gun violence, she created a public health art piece depicting the horrors of school shootings for this year's ArtPrize competition. With her background as an eye doctor, she enjoys including unusual optics in her artwork. For example, the art piece for this competition features a holographic photo ; when you look slightly to one side or the other, one image will transition to another. She will achieve this effect utilizing lenticular images which are similar to holograms but make use of a different light refracting process. Though this art fair is her first debut as an artist, she has a lifelong history of creative endeavors. In 2004, she was featured as the very first "inventor of the week" on the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show for her "Jiffy John", a travel toilet for adults with a 360 degree privacy screen. Earlier this year, she was selected by Idea Mensch as a top 25 female "badass" entrepreneur for her role as founder and CEO of a start-up company devoted to creating new treatments for retinopathy of prematurity and diabetic retinopathy.
