Steven Tozer Wipfli was born and raised in central Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Bowling Green State University with degrees in Art Education, Music Education and Choral Conducting. He taught choral music for twenty years at schools in Wisconsin and at Ottawa Hills Junior-Senior High School in Toledo. The last 15 years before retirement in 2015, he taught Art, Digital Photography, Graphic Design and AP Studio Art at Ottawa Hills. “I have always been drawn to and influenced by the practical and decorative arts - design, architecture , quilting and graphic design. I am fascinated by building in increments, creating larger structures from tiny fragments and exploring variations of shape and size. Handmade and machine-made papers from all over the world provide the textures, colors and diversity of origin to energize my work. I improvise with color, texture, pattern and composition. Often, the work is about the shapes and the colors of the American landscape.”
