Sebastian Sandu’s figurative work captures both fluid and fractured aspects of identity. Working primarily with oils, he often ventures into the charcoal and acrylic area to illustrate his voice. Searching deeper into his subject’s inherited and personal territory, Sandu is eager to explore their mixed ethnicity, race, gender identity or other typologies. By celebrating diversity, Sandu reveals previously unseen details of our society which suggests, despite our differences, that we can function as ONE perfectly healthy organism. Romanian born (b.1978) and Michigan based artist, Sebastian Sandu got his BFA at the National Art and Design University in Bucharest, where he completed his Masters Degree in Visual Communications and Product Design. Among others, his work was exhibited by 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago; ARC Gallery in Chicago; AnArte Gallery in San Antonio, Texas; RealArt Gallery in Agoura Hills, California; The Dirty Show in Detroit, Michigan; Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Old Courthouse Art Center in Woodstock, Illinois; Museum of Contemporary Arts in Wausau, Wisconsin; D'Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia; Tieton Arts and Humanities in Tieton, Washington; Exhibizone in Ontario, Canada; and his work is included in THE LUNAR CODEX – Artists on the moon (AOTM) – The Nova Collection, to be sent to the Moon in Jan 2022. His paintings and interior design pieces were shown in museums, solo shows, group shows and can be found in private collections around the United States.
