Rodney E. Denne, also known as RED, creates large scale contemporary abstract paintings that are bold and stunning in any space. Each piece is hand painted with oil sticks to create layers of textures, rich colors, and bold shapes. Furthermore, Denne abstracts figures and objects to enhance his in-depth storytelling. Every painting explains a time in his life, a memory, or a personal connection to experiences that have affected him. As a result, these large-scale paintings not only are striking with shape and color but also a heavy backstory and emotional connection for each viewer to enjoy. Denne began his art career in painting while in Detroit. Here, he was inspired to paint with bold colors and large expressive shapes. Furthermore, he created his Exposed Series by painting colorful backgrounds, adding expressive objects, and abstracting a colorful figure. In addition, Denne created his Black and White Series that focuses on abstract figures, linear lines, and thick textures to achieve a stunning large-scale piece. With both collections, Denne channels emotion by abstracting figures to enhance his underlying stories and immersive concepts. Denne uses oil sticks to paint with because it allows him to enhance thick texture and create gestural movement. In addition, this entices audiences to look even closer into his physical forms which would also allow them to connect with the emotional story within each piece.
