Greetings and salutations. Looking forward to another excellent Artprize. Having developed what I believed to be a clever idea for this years Artprize and consequently searching through my reference material, I opened a book to a page whereupon I had glued the photo of the military transport casket and American flag of Pfc. Shane Cantu of Dover, Mi. being offloaded from a transport plane. As a (non-combat) Desert Storm vet, this painting immediately coalesced within my mind and removed any thought of submitting any other work to this years show. Morbidly, my nephew, Brandon McKinnon, combat veteran of Afghanistan, committed suicide due to PTSD complications during the completion of this painting. And thus-"Altarpiece," a partial view of a military transport coffin atop a church altar, bearing the inscription "In remeberance of me." "For what greater love hath a man...than to lay down his life for his brother." Thank you for your consideration.
