Greetings and Salutations. The great pleasure is mine to be returning (again) for another wonderful year of Grand Rapids ArtPrize (2018). The belief that I hold closest to my heart regarding our profession is that art must convey a message to the viewer across social-economic borders Greetings.(Hajimemashite) My name is Robert David Schoonover and I Thank you for taking the time to consider my work. My goal is to provide works of art that are aesthetically pleasing and to build bridges between nations by utilizing my unique style that is a blend of both American and Japanese influence and paying respectful homage to both styles that I love. "The second half of the 19th century was a period when western influences made themselves felt in Japanese art. Today, Western forms and Traditional Japanese styles exist side by side and some times mingle with each other in a new process of mutual assimilation and re invigoration." "The Japan of Today", 1989 by The International Society For Educational Information. Thank You. Robert David Schoonover
