I paint to express and to explore the movements inherent in nature and within me. Through my art I find a still point within myself and also connect with the awareness that the still point rides a great current. Movement, the certainty of change, interconnectedness, color, the incredible life force, and mystery are to be celebrated, danced with, and revered. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. My life as an artist began when I was given my first camera at the age of 7–a Brownie Hawkeye. I had my first darkroom at the age of 10, and I've documented much of my colorful life through the lens of my cameras. I studied art at the Vancouver School of Art, York University, and the Art Institute of Chicago. I'm also a certified Rolfer (Somatic Body Worker) through the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and I've maintained a private practice for more than 30 years. As a Rolfer, I help people free themselves of habitual movement patterns that keep them energetically limited and ease them into a more harmonious and dynamic relationship with the body and gravity. When I paint, it is much the same. Some of my most influential teachers have been the Native North American Elders and Healers with whom I lived in Canada and the American Southwest. Their earth centered traditions and ceremonies spoke to my life-long deep connection with the natural world. I draw from this connection for both my art and healing work, and I've travelled the world sharing my art as a healing tool. With my partner, Cathy, I'm the co-founder of The Coloring Well. We create mindful and healing coloring products and programs for adults. My paintings have appeared on the cover of Tiferet, a Journal of Literature, Art, and the Creative Spirit, a number of times.
