Originally from Virginia, I moved to Michigan's U.P. in 1973. I retired from the Dickinson County Sheriffs Office after 25 years as a 911 Dispatcher. I am an amateur photographer who mainly photographs subjects in nature; Animals, wildflowers, and landscapes. I am also drawn to photos of subjects that are of historical or local interest, many subjects catch my eye. One goal I set for myself after retirement was to learn how to photograph snowflakes. I had good success, but am still in pursuit of the "perfect" snowflake. I take photos mainly for my own enjoyment, but I also use them to create PPT programs to share and educate others about the U.P.s beautiful outdoors. Previously I have only entered my photos in a local calendar contest. In 2015 I entered my first juried contest, "Transient Moments", at the William Bonifas Art center, Escanaba, MI. My photo titled "Throwback Selfie" was a spur of the moment idea and a different subject matter than what I normally photograph. I was pleased when it was accepted to the show and then chosen for the traveling exhibit that followed. I use very little in the way of editing programs, mainly cropping. When I use an edited photo it is because it was an experiment that turned into something I liked. "Throwback Selfie" was edited to show the past in black & white and highlight the present by using color. In my past work section is a photo of an old Ford truck that I experimented with using a "sketch" mode as an edit. The other examples of my work are unedited except for cropping. Any edits to "Window to the Soul" are noted in the photo description.
