I enjoy scientific illustration because it combines my lifelong passion for both art and science. Inspired by the works of Ernst Haeckel and John James Audobon, my primary subject matter is birds, mammals, and plants. My goal is to realistically depict flora and fauna in great detail. When I illustrate animals, I strive to capture their spirit and unique character. At Morton Publishing, I am the author and illustrator of a best-selling four-book series called the Visual Analogy Guides that cover the fields of anatomy, physiology, and chemistry. I also work as a freelance scientific illustrator. Most of my career was spent as an educator as a Professor of Anatomy & Physiology at Grand Rapids Community College. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids and currently live with my wife and son in Ada, Michigan.
