Mono D'Angelo

Grosse Ile, MI, United States

I've been an artist for as long as I can remember. I studied painting at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit before moving into a long career as an automotive design engineer. I've since retired from engineering but have devoted much more time to my art. My art was done primaryly in oil paints. I think oil is the ideal medium for coloration and intensity. But oils take time and I started looking for ways to create that were physically simpler. Then I found pastel chalk and it has become my primary medium. I found my experience with oil carried over into pastel and I adapted to them quickly. My creative energy has extended into writing. I have written a novel, several books of poetry and edited numerous other books. I am past president of the Poetry Society of Michigan, the oldest such organization in Michigan. I have also built furniture, restored old boats, and spent most of my adult life sailing on the Great Lakes. In my first Art Prize experience, I was part of collaboration in ARTPrize 2013 entitled, "Connected". In AP2017, I exhibited in the Grand Rapids city hall. I'm involved with several local art associations near me (Grosse Ile Alliance for the Arts, the Downriver Council for the Arts).
