Miriel was born in WI and raised in the U.P. of Michigan. She moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1998 to attend Kendall College of Art and Design where she graduated with a BFA degree in 2002. Since 2002 she has been self-employed painting murals and faux finishes in people’s homes and businesses. She has done many murals locally and afar. Some of her larger projects include the Air Zoo in Portage, MI and the Sloan Museum in Flint, MI. She has also completed projects for museums in Arizona, Colorado and Nebraska. “Since becoming a mom in 2011 my passion has shifted towards breastfeeding advocacy and support. I am currently a volunteer leader for La Leche League of Grand Rapids helping mothers through breastfeeding support. I've also recently become employed as a lactation consultant. There was a time in my life when I didn't think anything could compete with my passion for art, that is, until I discovered my passion for breastfeeding. I chose to start creating breastfeeding art because I could see the need to re-normalize breastfeeding in our culture. With my art I hope to tear down barriers in our society that leave women unsupported and unsuccessful in doing the very thing their bodies were designed to do. It is my hope that no woman who wishes to nurse her child is denied that privilege because of lack of support.”
