Michael Johnson is a freelance from Evanston, Illinois, who has been painting full-time for 25 years. When he graduated from school in 1993, there were no art programs for people with special needs. Michael got jobs painting portraits and illustrations, and learned his craft by working the jobs. Michael Johnson's art is a bridge between the general public and the Down Syndrome community. Every day, he works for understanding, full inclusion, and acceptance. Michael donates his work to fundraisers as a way to give back to the community. He is proud that his art can help both people and animals. In 2007, NDSS gave Michael a Voices award. In March of 2018, Michael's piece, "Country Music," won a Juror's Choice Award during ACTion Art hosted by Artists Creating Together.
