Datum, which means point of origin, a a 5 minute video created from original prints, etchings, that were scanned into the computer and animated. The video has no sounds, but it memorizing to watch. It is my preference that the video be projected onto a ceiling and proved a space of the floor for the participants to lay down while viewing the work. Datum is a visual reference for the origin of silence, and allowing oneself to become engaged in the work and disengaged, momentarily, in the activities of the outside world. During its debut recently in my solo exhibition "The Space Within the Moment" many viewers stayed for a prolonged period of time and often requested that the gallery lights be turned off, thus creating a very contemplative and quiet space. The physical act of the viewer lying on the floor, very unconventional in a gallery space, added to the physical/mental transformation of the viewer. video can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/datum
