Textile Artist Martin Grizzell’s works are characterised by an interdisciplinary approach that combines history, sociology and language sciences. Drawing from the traditions related to decorative arts, presentations are part of a continuous, ever-growing transmission of African and African American history. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Martin Grizzell continues to augment his work with the use of the Spirituals. His work is presently in the permanent collection of the newly opened Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture (SMAAHC), Washington, DC. In 2015 and 2016 Grizzell was selected to represent the United States in the prestigious, annual, international ConsulArt Exhibition in Marseille France. In 2019 Grizzell was selected, via a juried process, to exhibit in France’s annual Vœux D’Artistes 2019 Exposition entitled “Colours Against Pain.” Proceeds are donated to pediatric cancer research in France. “The artistic talent of Martin Grizzell demonstrate a large knowledge of tissue, embroidery and the history of textiles. His works of art are open to creative alchemy." Carole Marie Daniels, Curator, College of Arts and Crafts, California.
