Marsha Lucas was born in Michigan and grew up in SW Michigan. She works predominantly in the medium of acrylic painting while incorporating other sources of mixed media into her work. For 20 + years Marsha has been an attendee and former board member of the Kalamazoo Ballet, Bullard School of Dance in Kalamazoo, MI. Although a self trained artist, "I have a more contemporary, self expressional zeal for creating abstracts and the human form." "I use everyday experiences as my muse, LIVING, is my classroom for the arts." While living in Leicestershire, England she was a promotional model for Estee Lauder and later moved to New York to study among the artist's community. She has sold several paintings and restored antique maps to collectors over the years. From 2000-2008 Marsha was back modeling for BFA and MFA students at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and several local independent artists. Since moving to Grand Rapids in 2016 to present, Marsha has been accepted into every ArtPrize. Each year her medium changes as her experience grows with different techniques. Marsha has also joined one of the most respected artists groups in West Michigan, The Grand Valley Artists. Modeling for The Franciscan Life Process Center, Grand Rapids Community College, Hope College and several private drawing groups. Marsha was also accepted into the Grand Rapids 2020 Festival of the Arts before they were forced to cancel due to Covid-19. I am currently working on building my art career in the contemporary field.
