I created this piece, Michael, to spark dialogue about prejudice and discrimination in our country. This sculpture does not represent any one person, culture, or viewpoint, nor is it intended to be a critique of law enforcement. Rather, it represents the everyday nature of prejudice and its damaging effects. Prejudice permeates our society, and this sculpture offers a starting point for people to discuss their thoughts and beliefs. Through dialogue, we can recognize and overcome our prejudices, by making an effort to understand the perspectives and experiences of others. We share this country, continent, and world, and differences will always exist. Accepting each other will hopefully make this world a more peaceful and harmonious place.
