Kyd Kane is a performance poet, native to Grand Rapids, MI. As a member of the poetry collective, Intellectual Writers, Kyd has been performing poetry around the United States since the debut of her spoken word video "Awaken" that was shot and directed by Mike Canon Films in February of 2015. She has been using her connection with audiences to spread the power of self-acknowledgment and moving with intention. You can hear the phrase “thoughts become things” woven throughout her poetry further driving the message of how the power of the mind can help manifest dreams. As a longtime lover of the arts, Kyd found her niche in writing poetry following her school’s annual poetry festival in the second grade. Her love of writing is another powerful theme within her artwork. Currently, she can be found spreading her passion for performance art with the bi-weekly open mic series, Creston Vibes, that she co-hosts at Creston Brewery in Grand Rapids. In addition to performing her poetry, Kyd has facilitated a number of writing workshops, ranging from elementary to college levels, helping students access their inner poet by being true to their authentic selves through their writing. Kyd Kane’s most recent work, “broke(n)hunger," is being featured at Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) in Grand Rapids, MI as part of their “Cultivate” exhibition. This dynamic piece combines spoken word with visual arts to creatively examine the hunger epidemic in the United States and dispel many myths surrounding its causes.
