Kendra Christie was born in the village of Haddenham, in Cambridge, England with her fraternal twin sister, and was raised for most of her life in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She and her five siblings were United States Air Force brats for their early childhood years. Both sides of Ms. Christie's family hail from Celtic decent. Her grandmother, being a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, keeps the family attached to its Irish roots with great enthusiasm. Kendra is a Christian, and is involved in children's ministry at her church. This year's ArtPrize entry is about the community that raised her. Having collected stories about what people believe made them who they are, Kendra has taken on the task of turning them into emotive pieces of artwork that come together to make a self portrait. She hopes that this series honors her family and community, and shows just how much they mean to her. Ms. Christie is experienced in several forms of artwork including: acrylic painting, pencil and chalk drawing, photography, and has experimented in theatrical cosmetics.
These are Kendra's official ArtPrize entries from this year and past years.
