Katie Monahan (born Detroit, Michigan) graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2007 with a B.F.A. degree. Now living in Los Angeles, Katie works out of her private studio experimenting with oils, acrylic textures, and glass. “I think of the present culture as a complex narrative, dense with objects and people interacting within limited spaces. I find my entry into this story as an individual through the attention I pay to little pieces of it. Understanding relationships between these pieces is both endlessly fascinating and also helps in locating my experience and choices within a larger framework.” She has been honored by inclusion in national and international juried shows and publications and with awards such as 1st Place in Painting at the Beverly Hills Affaire 2011 and “Curator’s Choice” in Redondo Beach 2010. Today her work can be found in LA’s Medallion and 2nd St. Galleries, the Hellada Gallery in Long Beach, and in private homes in locations around the world.
