Lions, Tigers, and Bears (Oh my!)

Justine Dillenbeck's avatar Justine Dillenbeck

This piece is inspired by John Ball Zoo's very own collection of animals. With photographs taken personally by the artist, every hair is painstakingly wood-burned BY HAND for realism, and watercolor will be added to the Tigers for emphasis in color. NOT laser etched! Meet the Lions! Abena the lioness is gazing off to the side with rapt attention. And Docha the big old male Lion who was born in 2005 and weighs over four hundred pounds and enjoys roaring in the evenings while resting in the grass. Meet the Tigers! New to John Ball Zoo this last year, Amur Tigers Kuza (top) and Yuri (bottom) are brothers. Each weigh four hundred and fifty pounds. Yuri is most distinctive with the horseshoe-shaped stripe over his right eye and is the more timid of the two, while Kuza is more outgoing. Meet the Bears! Yogi (left) and Bu-Bu (right). Yogi arrived from Yellowstone and is darker and smaller than Bu-Bu the Grizzly, who came all the way from Alaska. THIS IS FOR SALE
