John Leben's formal training is in painting having earned a BFA from the University of Illinois and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Leben has always been obsessed by technology, both as theme and medium. For the last twelve years Leben has focused on the computer as his medium producing prints of digital paintings that have been exhibited at galleries and museums all over the Midwest, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Kalamazoo Institute of Art, Muskegon Art Museum, South Haven Art Center, Holland Area Arts Council as well as one-man shows at the Michael Wyman Gallery, John Deere World Headquarters, Good Goods Gallery, Lake Effect Gallery and the Armstrong-De Graaf Gallery. This will be Leben's 10th year in ArtPrize, having missed only the first year of this event. Leben owns the LebenArt Gallery in Douglas, Michigan where he exhibits his digital paintings as well as the digital artwork from about a dozen digital artists from around the country.
