I have worked in construction for my entire life, and I am a third generation union carpenter. I have worked extensively with copper and slate for roofs and for architectural details, which takes the "art" right onto the water proofing of the buildings, adding texture, color, grace and "lines" to the places we live in and work in. Many of the finer homes and historic buildings in southwest Michigan feature my work on the outside as my "canvas" is literally there for all to see all the time. I have written extensively about slate and slate roofing and worked on hundreds of slate roofs which combine many of these different mediums into one huge canvas. Many of these buildings also feature these types of staircases and that is one thing that spurred me to create this piece. We all "see" this art everyday, but it is largely taken for granted. I try and preserve and protect it, while adding more everyday. Enjoy
