A few years ago my daughters encouraged me to try working with fabric and thread, and one gave me a book on painting with stitches, creating freestyle embroidery by hand. From that encouragement I created my 2017 ArtPrize piece and have done a few other projects. For 2020, I have entered a freestyle embroidery piece I'm simply calling "Orchids". It is based on a beautiful orchid plant we've been able to enjoy for most of the winter and has lasted long enough for me to finish the piece in time for this year's ArtPrize event. It took about 3 months to create, it begs to be looked at closely to see the delicate careful stitching work. It may become a be a piece that will be handed down for generations Before retireing I was the Sr. Director of Content Design and Operations with Harper Collins Christian Publishing at Zondervan. I am a graduate of San Jose State University where I majored in fine arts, and graphics. I have worked in various design roles. Most of my art is inspired by places I have visited. I've worked in a variety of media—pen and ink, oil pastels, and colored pencils.
