Highland Park, MI, United States

Jessica Wildman is a visual artist living and working in Detroit and Highland Park, MI. Born and raised in the quasi-rural lakes area suburbs of Detroit, Wildman is a self-proclaimed "lakebilly". Initially concentrated in photography and video, her vocational training as a builder apprentice specializing in historic home restoration dramatically influenced her art practice. Both labor and process are critical to her work which draws influence from personal history and the material culture of the Great Lakes region. Wildman's creative research earned her an Award of Excellence from the Academy of Scholars at Wayne State University in 2013 where she graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in sculpture and photography that same year. Exhibited nationally from New York to San Francisco, her work has been awarded the Bud Bernstein Endowed Prize, the Linda Marlene Iden Scholarship in Fine Art, two Undergraduate Research Grants, a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, and a forthcoming Graduate Research Assistantship to artist and Assistant Professor Lauren Kalman at Wayne State University where she is currently a MFA candidate in Fibers.
