Making things with my hands is the most satisfying thing I do in life. I often just unroll some wire and start bending it into forms- no planning, over thinking or sketches. Working with glass for many years has made me have to think on my feet- the glass moves and you move with it or it just gets away from you. For the past few years I haven't had access to a hot shop so my wire work has taken on some of the qualities I love about glass. I have moved form dense wound figures to having one single line of wire outline the suggestion of a form. I think of these figures as "carved air" - the line of the wire gives mass to the air it surrounds. I really like making this work- it reminds me of "The Emperors New Clothes". Is it "real"? Can you see it or are you being fooled by your belief in it's reality? That is one of my favorite things about art in general- it is so subjective. I grew up in Chicago in a family of creative people. There were no limits placed on my imagination.
