As graduate of Central Michigan University in 1970, I continually worked as a part time artist/sculptor, while working as a high school teacher. It wasn’t until in 1973, when I joined the “Paint and Palette” art group of Flint, Michigan, that I began to pursue art as a career in earnest. Continued success in this endeavor led to the decision in 1977 to quit teaching all together to work full time as an artist/sculptor. Painting and Drawing had been my major area of concentration while pursuing my degree. But then while working toward my Masters degree at Wayne State University, Detroit, I developed an interest for wood carving while making a woodcut as one of the requirements for a print making class. My interest was deepened when in 1975 I began carving “in the round” pieces. I found working in 3 dimensions to be captivating and with wood, inspiring. Wood sculpture has since remained my medium of choice, as a vehicle for rendering my artistic impressions.
