In this mosaic I felt I was painting with glass. It was extremely challenging to work on a large surface and to hand cut 4,792 individual pieces of glass working the colors to the express the various hues of the kayaks and the radiance and beauty of Lake Michigan. The inspiration for this piece came about during an early morning beach walk on Lake Michigan. Living in Michigan surrounded by fresh water I have found that I am fascinated by its constantly changing form while it trickles, seeps, and flows. I am drawn to bright, vivid colors so when I saw kayaks and movement of the water I knew that I had to create this scene some way either with watercolors or as a mosaic. I enjoy working with glass and bringing energy and movement to the surface to making it come alive to excite the viewer.
