My 3 Minute Art Model Drawing Marathon at ArtPrize (Gerald Ford Museum) is a fun and engaging way to get a lot of drawing accomplished! Plus, the volunteer Art Models love it and find out how challenging it is to pose for artists! Specializing in painting, drawing and digital art gives me variety and the ability to combine my skills and interests. I have had many creative endeavors throughout my professional life and now have the time and opportunity to share my artwork with a broader audience. In 2017, I founded Artpie Studio/Gallery/Art School in Waukegan, IL to create more focused artworks on a more regular basis. I run a local gallery for Chicagoland artists and an art school for neighborhood youth. Proceeds from my artwork help support free creative workshops for under-resourced students in urban areas and promotion for the gallery. I hope to continue this path in the Boston area as my gallery in Waukegan gets back to regular activity. I moved to Boston in 2019 and immediately attended Life Drawing workshops around the city, there are many! It had been nearly 40 years since art school at Indiana University where I had drawn from a nude model. It truly reignited my love of drawing! In my new paintings I explore color, texture and layers to engage the viewer, evoking primal and emotional connections. With suggestions of form, hints of portraits and glimpses of nature, in a cosmic swirl I leave most to the imagination. My background is representational, but as I grow older I am seeking something more intangible. Using a looser style, informal techniques and sometimes uncontrolled events, mysterious scenes are made to explore. I am interested in more unconscious efforts, experimental techniques, renewal, transformation and natural influences to guide my decision making and process. My goal is to provide a mystical, emotional and thought provoking canvas. --- Influences include Da Vinci, Raphael, Michaelangelo, and Carravagio for my academic training and aspirations. Mexican artist David Siqueiros, German artist Gerhard Richter and American artist Jackson Pollock have provoked my desires for abstraction. --- “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." - Albert Einstein
