My name is James O'Neal. I live in southern New Jersey with my wife Beth. I first took up carving around ten years ago. My first attempt was a life size gargoyle, carved from a red oak tree, which I entered in Artprize in 2011. While I still work a full time job in an oil refinery, most of my free time is spent transforming tree trunks into life size statues. My carvings are all meticulously detailed by hand with a mallet and chisels, finely sanded, and finished only with clear finishes to show all of the beauty of the tree they were carved from. I hope you enjoy my work.
These are James's official ArtPrize entries from this year and past years.
