James Egaku

Walker, MI, United States

James Egaku began his artistic training at the tender age of three and descends from rich family traditions of both Japanese and Korean artists. James’ journey took a detour, in his early twenties, when he experienced a catastrophic event as the result of an undiagnosed mental illness. Despite the challenges this event presented, James used the experience to develop strength and resilience, two qualities that would enable him to develop into the artist he is today. James’ art speaks to the soul and deals with intense subjects surrounding depression, trauma, and mental illness in general. His artistic expression has played a crucial role in his recovery, and he believes that he can be a voice of healing and insight to others.
