Disintegration is at the heart of my creative processes. Instances of destruction offer an opportunity for metamorphoses fueled by the hope of reintegration. Glass mirrors serve as my primary medium of destruction by way of semi-controlled shattering moments. Each mirror is suspended in the air by way of carefully positioned stilts. I use my body weight to build pressure in the floating glass and eventually cause a shattering event. Through variation in stilt placement and pressure positioning, fracture patterns can become semi-predictable. In many of my works thus far, exposed mirror will be left along the fissure lines to generate radiant fracture patterns, inspiring wonder about the nature of shattering. This mirror pinstriping allows light to enter the glass and illuminate every painted shard. The reflective surface of the mirrors in my works provide a unique opportunity to cast beautiful reflections into the space they occupy. Using mirrors as my primary medium offers a personal portal into the work itself. Once inside the work itself, I hope a viewer might reconsider what is dangerous and what is destroyed.
