There are two main reasons why I create art and they both have to do with fascination. I have a fascination with the beauty and craftsmanship of old master artists and with art's commentary on the human condition. Essentially thats what art is, a poetic documentation of the human condition. But before art became what we know it to be today, it was an enactment of a mythology or a ritual. The first function of a mythology is the reconciliation of consciousness with the preconditions of its own existence. Its second function is to create a total image of the cosmos as consciousness is aware of it. With the combination of these two functions the creation of art is taking something that was unconscious and making it conscious. Carl Sagan said on his famous Cosmos series,"We are the universe becoming conscious of itself." This is the focus that my artwork is taking. I am creating my own mythology for my human condition with a 21st century image of the universe. Most of my inspiration comes from the ideas of Joseph Campbell, the leading authority on comparative mythology and Carl Jung, a forefather in the field of psychology and the champion of the collective unconscious. I grew up in Imlay City, MI which is a small town on the east side of the state. I always took an interest to art as a kid but really didn't come into my own so to say until high school. After that I went on to receive my Bachelors degree in Studio Art with a focus in drawing and painting at Miami International University of Art and Design. Since then I have honed my skills as a painter as well as the concept that I wish to develop.
