The Camper

The Birdsell Project, a local arts organization in South Bend, has partnered with me to turn an RV into a mobile work of art. In addition to lots of engine work & a really good wash, the interior of this 74' Dodge has been refurbished to fit the period. The people in the photographs that cover the walls are my family and I when I was a child. Expecting my first child in February, I can feel myself going through the biggest transition of my life. As I make this transition to parenthood, this project has offered me the opportunity to reflect on my childhood. These reflections have given me a lot of insight into the people my parents were when I was young, as well as the parent I hope to become. The piece is a celebration of family, the time spent with those closest to us, and the memories we’ve made that make us laugh and cry. Guests are invited to join the celebration by making themselves at home, drinking some coffee, playing games with old friends or new.
