Retired from teaching art in public school, and from teaching art education at Aquinas College, my focus now is creating abstract and stylized wooden sculpture based on contemporary themes. Central to my studio practice is the use of recycled, discarded and second-hand materials. In another sense, I find myself recycling images absorbed from my years in elementary art rooms where my search for innovative instructional methods collided with my young students' need for unique self expression. I truly believe I learned as much from them as they learned from me. Their influence keeps me looking for child-like solutions to the art-making problems I set for myself.
