Alone Together

This work is inspired by watching adults and children in beautiful moments of observing and admiring butterflies at the Meijer Gardens butterfly exhibit last spring. Using support from a custom constructed 5 1/2 foot by 4 foot frame, I am building my relief-type sculpture of wire and handmade paper flowers and tree landscape. As the piece reaches its height, the sculpture will arc outward, like a canopy 2 1/2 feet with additional framework for support. I will suspend my (many) wire and paper butterflies with monofilament line from the canopy. The butterflies will move with the slighest amount of wind current. I want the viewer to feel as though they are a part of the art and cause them to want to step in among the butterflies and look up toward the 'sky. This piece will be hung on a wall and is not meant to be touched but, my materials are quite durable and I won't be upset if it is touched.
