CHakra 84 Reprise

The Chakra 84 Reprise, or the Wheel of Life, gets its title from the ancient Hindu belief that the soul must pass through 84 million forms of life before it transcends the physical realm. That's a long time. What I really want the title to impress upon the viewer is not a mind-boggling concept, but the idea that all forms of life are present and sacred for a reason. The piece itself, its dimensions, its visual dynamics, is an effort to recreate a dream. In my dream I stood in an endless prairie while four columns of birds, originating from the four earthly directions, flew high into the sky to form a circle above me. It filled me with an awe never felt before or since. A few years afterwards, I came upon a book by a Native American Medicine Man, Sun Bear, who had nearly the same dream. He explained the significance and symbolism of the dream but the details and symbolism are not as important as the lasting impression the dream had on me – knowing God was present in all things.
