George Postmus has returned in recent years to painting after retiring from over forty years in the advertising and marketing world. He has studied oil painting under notable painters in the United States including John Howard Sanden, Richard Schmid, Daniel Greene and Margaret Carter Baumgaertner. He has completed many portrait including family members and area leaders including corporate and church leaders. In addition he has spent considerable time studying directly under noted landscape/seascape painters Elaine Mathews and Terry Masters in the greater Palm Springs, California area. Postmus follow in a style taken from the best of his mentors and the leading artists of our time including John Singer Sargent, Philip A. deLaszlo and Joaquin Sorolla. Although it would be impossible to totally match their masterly control, it is the lofty goal to strive toward. Postmus obtained his BS degree from Western Michigan University in 1962 majoring in art and graduating with honors in his chosen major. After graduation, he joined the advertising/marketing world in varied creative capacities at the corporate level and eventually established his own advertising/marketing firm. He honed his skills with post graduate work in the business aspects of new product introduction and marketing and received numerous awards from his peers. He has travel extensively with his wife, the former Mary Hettinga, throughout the United States and Europe focusing on Italy to widen his knowledge of the arts. He has exhibited in varied art exhibits and most notably won first place juried award in the 2013 Grand Haven Artwalk, a sister to Grand Rapids Artprize. George M. Postmus offers his own distinctive style that reflects his understanding of oil painting in a distinct, dignified manner. His goals are to carry forward the tradition from which good oil painting has evolved.
