PROFILE I believe we are all artists, tapping into our own means of expression. Through my love of nature and intellectual curiosity, common events trigger my memories, imagination, and interest in current affairs near and far. Painting is the tool that makes visible the wonderful worlds that show up in my head. They begin as the germ of an idea coming from my daily experiences and heightening my awareness of my immediate surroundings. Painting makes me more conscious of the richness and beauty of each day – ostensibly ordinary, but becoming extraordinary through art. The creation of each piece is both a challenge and a pleasure – a challenge because I usually cannot resist trampling over my own initial vision and planning; and a pleasure, because besides loving the process, I rejoice in the final outcome of my vision. BIO I was born in Mexico Mexico City. The daughter of two people that believed in science, love the arts and were madly in love with each other and Mexico My early childhood was spent in the tropics by the Gulf of Mexico in a Village called Tamiahua in the state of Veracruz. My teenage years and early adulthood were spent in Mexico City. In college I got a degree in marketing and eventually I got a teaching certificate to teach English as a foreign language. I worked in both fields until I moved to Seattle. I have backpacked through SE Asia, India, Nepal, East Africa, South America and Europe For the last 20 years I have worked as a bilingual instructional assistant K-12 in the Seattle Public School system. While working full time I got a BA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University based in San Francisco California. I celebrated my AAU BA by walking El Camino de Santiago, in Spain. At present I continue teaching and making art. To see more of my work please follow my Instagram @tiertau_ernestina
