Eleanor Swan

Newbridge,, Co Kildare., Ireland

I am a ceramic artist working full time from my studio at Russborough House (www.russborough.ie) which is situated in a beautiful part of Ireland. It is in a converted stable yard and looks out to the Wicklow Mountains, freezing in winter but very special in summer. I trained as a nurse and worked in the Operating Theatre for 20 years in a Childrens Hospital in Dublin before changing career. I had always been passionate about the arts and sometimes life takes over and you forget its possible to change. I graduated in 2006 from NCAD (National College of Art and Design) in Dublin with a BA Design (Ceramics) First Class Honours, and an MA Design (Ceramics) from NCAD in 2010. I have been working consistently and successfully since then and exhibition worldwide. Most recently, in 2016, I exhibited at the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale, winning a bronze medal. A 3 month residency followed in 2017 at the Yingge Ceramic Museum in Taipei , which was an amazing experience. My ceramic practice covers a variety of issues that are of interest to me, from a current social commentary to an exploration of ceramics for our senses. Clay, for me, provides endless possibilities to explore how we exist, react and live in our world today. I have found that my work often results in a dialogue on issues that many are slow to comment on. Bio/CV Education: 2008-2010 MA Design, Ceramics, NCAD, Dublin. 2002-2006 BDes, 1st Class Hons.
