I came to Detroit in 1978 to obtain a PhD , followed by a ~30-yr acadmic neuroscience research career. I lived in downtown Detroit from 1978-1994, and in Ann Arbor since 2011. I have trained over the past 6 years with regional professional artists in diverse media, most recently ceramics (mentor: Yiu Keung Lee). My paintings and sculptures have appeared in prior 5 exhibitions (2 juried, 3 curated), and 2 non-juried venues. My works derive from my intrinsic responses to life and death, the physical world and importantly, the evolving artistic image or form. Extrinsically, this range of internalized emotions is expressed and continuously revised using a variety of tools and media that now includes slip-cast porcelain as a principle sculptural element. Contemporary non-representational forms and themes inspire both my abstract visual imagery and provocative sculptural forms.
