Dorothy Graden, an award winning artist, lives in Valparaiso, Indiana. A former educator of 25 years, she now works full time in her art studio, and remains active as a free lance art educator, speaker and juror. She has exhibited her art in numerous solo and group exhibitions and was represented by the Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago until Ann's recent retirement in late 2016. She has given presentations of her art process and inspiration in the U.S, Ireland, Russia and Austria. Dorothy holds an Education Degree from Indiana University and a Masters in Liberal Studies from Valparaiso University. She studied art and art history at Indiana University and Valparaiso University. Inspired by her travels and a fascination with ancient cave drawings, Dorothy works primarily in mixed media using textural hand-pulled and dyed cotton rag as background for her whimsical interpretations of distant and forgotten cultures. A certified SCUBA diver, she often incorporates sea elements into her paintings.
