Grand Rapids, MI based artist, Devin DuMond earned both her BFA in Illustration and MFA in Drawing from Kendall College of Art & Design. Using graphite pencils and powder, her delicate drawings are narrative, ethereal, and meticulously executed. Each drawing is an allegory; some personal in nature while others address universal themes inspired by mythology, biology, and the human experience. Using moths as the reoccuring motif to express these concepts, they permeate from the background space in hazy swarms, alight on the bodies of women, and exist in their own portraits. Her new work moves beyond the moth; inspired by animal totems, she explores the idea of how animal attributes can represent strength, character, and womanhood. In addition to being a fine artist, Devin owns Hatch Creative Services, a design and branding company, and is an adjunct professor at Kendall College of Art & Design.
