Years of walking the beaches of Sanibel Island, FL as a seashell collector have given me an eye for spotting things that don't quite belong - a shape, color, texture or reflection - indicating that there is something there that needs to be discovered. Little did I know how this skill would translate into me becoming an artist, while walking Ava, a 3 year old Samoyed on her daily 3-5 mile walk. There's "treasure" everywhere...you wouldn't believe the amount and variety of things that can be found along the roads, sidewalks, bike paths and parking lots of West Michigan. The dog gets a walk, I get some exercise, my community is a little bit cleaner, I have a virtually unlimited supply of free art supplies and I've made a few hundred dollars in returnable cans and bottles as a bonus! This year's entry is my latest piece in the "Once Upon a Walk" series.
