My artwork is heavily influenced by ancient Egyptian symbols, cave art and Viking runes, expressed as primitive glyphs and line work. I've always been fascinated with hieroglyphics and cave drawings, their meaning feeling hidden to me. Artists and work I've been drawn to include Dali, Picasso, Miro and Kandinsky. In terms of my artistic process, I work with contrasting paints--watercolor and acrylic enamel. I prefer using vintage paints, when I can find them, because I feel the color is more vivid and has a sharper definition. My process is intuitive and reactionary, starting with how I create the background using watercolor and then create layers of line work and color. For my line work I turn a thin paint brush upside down, dip it in the paint and move it over the canvas and let it flow as I create the abstract marks.
