Daniel J Combs hails from Waterford, New York. He attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan; earning a B.A. in English and Communication. His passion, which has developed over the years, is photography. However, Daniel’s career as a sommelier has enabled him to travel throughout the United States and Europe. After several years living in Vermont; Seattle, Washington; and New York City, he is back in West Michigan. Daniel’s photography entry “Still Life in Nature” is a play on words. A “still life” is a work of art that focuses on an arrangement of objects typically including items from nature that contrast in texture. His pieces, “Metamorphosis” and “Trilogy” attest to this definition. Yet, it is his Mohawk-Seneca heritage and his own personal beliefs regarding our connection to nature that address his title - “Still Life, in Nature”. The landscape “Up North” of the Lake Michigan coast acknowledges that water is life. “In every deliberation, we must consider the impact on the next seven generations”. The Great Law of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Our responsibility is to ensure that there is “still life in nature” for generations to come.
