I am an assemblage artist, taking ordinary objects, and making them extraordinary. By fracturing, cutting, and re-assembling them into an entirely new entity. As a sculptor I like to create structure from these elements that I piece together with supplies like wire, wood, ribbets, tin ect. I sometimes create large fantasy heads which are inspired by Chinese dragon heads. When I was younger, for about five to six summers I would draw profiles and caricatures at Cedar Point Amusement Park. I then took my love of drawing and sculpture to the classroom and taught elementary, middle, and high school students’ art for just over twenty years. In this piece my inspiration was a self-portrait Vincent Van Gogh painted. I decided I would bring my own flair to his portrait by taking his 2D painting and create a relief portrait.
